Make Your Content Pre-sell

Affiliate marketing is all about building relationships with the people who visit your site. Sure, you can advertise to people and hope and pray that they will click on your product link and buy something. Or, you can build a long term relationship with the visitor so they come back time and time again revisiting your links for more commission without having to re-advertise to the same people. Thus, lowering your ad costs.

One extremely critical way to do this is with an ezine.

So far in this series we have talked about the importance of an ezine, how to do it, and what to put in it. This part is going to focus on how to actually get money out of each issue.

This is a concept that is quite often overlooked in the overall affiliate marketing strategy. People should be expecting to make money with each issue. No matter how many subscribers you have. Some of the most lucrative ezines on the Internet today only have a few thousand subscribers. But, they are devoted and buy everything they recommend.

So, how do you do that? How do you make money with each issue? There are four amazingly powerful, but simple ways, to do just that.

Personal Recommendations

By far, the easiest way to make earn huge affiliate commissions from each issue is by personally recommending a product you are affiliated with. Ian Herculson of The Guru Marketer.com knows how powerful this is. He has a fantastic ezine that he sends out that is all personal recommendations for products he is affiliate with.

And he makes a ton from each issue. He reaches a mammoth 60% click-thru rate with his ezine. Why? Because the people who have opted into his ezine know and trust his judgment.

Now, before you rush to put out as many personal recommendations as you can for each of the products you're affiliate with there is a caution to be made.

Do not expect to do this without a good relationship with your subscribers.

And do not blast these out every day.

Those are the things that people do and then cry that recommendations don't work. They haven't taken the time to build a relationship with their subs and they blast email after email out. Don't do this.

When you're just starting out with recommendations, do it sparingly. Once every month or so. Then when you see that people are starting to trust you, do a few more a month.

They key to personally recommending something is to write from experience. Tell how the product helped you and how you used it. This is an amazingly powerful way to sell through recommendations.

"Sprinkle" links in your article.

After recommendations this technique is also great for making money with your ezine issue. Think for a second why people are subscribing to your ezine. They want to read about something. Learn something. Find out how to do something.

Of course, the best way to do this is through an article. Also a powerful way to earn money. You just have to do this by making it look like you're not selling anything.

You can do this easily when you just link certain words (keywords) to an actual product or the merchant's website. For example, a recent niche package that I completed for a client who is an affiliate for golf products, I wrote several ezine articles dealing with picking the right golf club. In the article I linked words like "golf club", "driver", "top of the line putter", etc.. to actual products. The client says that her initial results have been very profitable.

Don't overdo it though. A few links in each article will make a tremendous impact on the profitability of your ezine.

Affiliate ads relevant to the issue.

Ok, this has to be taken with a very large word of caution. If there is one thing that many people do completely wrong is put way too many ads in their ezines. One, two, maybe three ads is enough. I like one to two.

Another problem is that they are not relevant to the topic of the issue they are in. For example, a recent ezine consultation revealed this very problem. The person couldn't figure out why they couldn't make money with their ezine and was about to stop it all together. Immediately I saw the problem. This person was publishing an ezine dealing with health and fitness. The most recent issues had ads for MLM companies, athletic equipment like hockey sticks, and an ad for a clothing company. Now besides the MLM company you might think that these ads might be relevant.

However, the issues they were in dealt with working out at home with no weights. Relevant ads would be one ad dealing with a portable home gym device and one dealing with a video of home workout techniques. The reader is reading about a certain topic so place ads strategically dealing with the same topic.

Re-direct the reader to your site.

Finally, each issue must contain a few ways for the reader to be directed to your own site where there is even more content associated with the topic you're writing about. If you publish a newsletter on dog care and grooming tips, then make sure they know that you have a website dedicated to dog grooming and care with even more information. This will get the reader to visit your site more often where the above techniques can be employed on every page, maximizing your profit potential.

A lot of people think that just because a person visited their site once that's all they need. That's wrong. People need to revisit your site over and over again in order to initially trust you. Once they continue to visit your site, chances are they won't stop. Capitalize on this and use these tips to create consistent affiliate commissions.
